Music plays a big part in my writing process. If I'm sitting at my laptop, I almost always have my ear-buds in. I know what you're thinking though-- Every time I see a novel's playlist, I always think How in the world do these songs relate to the novel? This isn't what I pictured while reading at all! But that's what's so great about books-- we all bring our own experienced to the mix. However, I'm going to share my inspirations anyway. Here are the songs that influenced and inspired me while writing The Apple Tree:
Three Wishes by The Pierces
I call this Bianca's theme song because it just seems to fit her. Not necessarily the lyrics, but the tone and melody feels like her.

Chapter One
Bianca shoved moss-covered branches out of the way as she stumbled through the woods. Where the heck was the highway?
She kicked a pebble across the forest floor and cursed the deer who’d led her into the dense vegetation. The animal had stood only a few feet from the road and would’ve made a lovely photograph. Easy, right? She should be cursing herself for being so foolish.
I'm a busy mom. I have three small children ages 6, 4 and 2. Plus, I homeschool the oldest. A lot of people ask me how I make time to write.
The answer is simple: I make it a priority.
You know that feeling when you read a really fantastic novel and you can't stop thinking about it?
Well, I'm coining a new term for this: Cloudy Book Brain.
Just wait. It's gonna be a thing. You'll see.
Signs that you may suffer from Cloudy Book Brain:
- The lady at the grocery store looks at you funny and you realize you were having an imaginary conversation with a fictional character.
- You've been surviving on cold cereal because you can't put the book down long enough to cook.
- You skip your best friends birthday dinner to find out what happens in chapter seventeen.
- When the book ends, you finally call up your friends and invite them to the book funeral. Because it feels like somebody died.
- You scour the internet for book extras, fan art and fan-fic. When you've exhausted that, you cyber-stalk the author and start on online petition for the book to be made into a movie.
- You are unable to start another book, because you're still living in the last one.
If you suffer from Cloudy Book Brain, it's important to get help. It may be difficult, but it's best to begin another book right away. When all else fails, go outside. Just remember to bring a book with you. You wouldn't want to be too distracted by nature.
